Appendix 1: List
of participants
Alissandra
Cummins, elected Chairperson of the Advisory Committee for
the period 2001-2004 during the 61st session held in Barcelona
on 29 June 2001, welcomed participants to the 62nd session.
It was a short but important session since it was convened
for the purpose of choosing a new Vice-Chairperson of the
Advisory Committee for the next triennial period, and to
determine the theme for International Museums Day for 2003.
0. ADOPTION OF THE AGENDA (2001/AD.04rev)
The draft agenda was adopted.
1. ELECTION OF THE VICE-CHAIRPERSON OF THE ADVISORY COMMITTEE
Alissandra
Cummins, who was responsible for the elections, announced
that three candidatures had been received. One was ineligible
while a second candidate had withdrawn. The only valid candidature,
therefore, was that of Günther Dembski (Austria), whom she
was happy to recommend to the members.
Following
a vote by a show of hands, the members of the Advisory Committee
unanimously elected Günther Dembski for the period 2001-2004.
2. QUESTIONS RAISED DURING THE 61st SESSION OF THE ADVISORY
COMMITTEE
Alissandra
Cummins declared that a number of points had been raised
during the 61st session. Some of the concerns expressed
were linked directly to the projects of the Strategic Plan
that will be implemented during the forthcoming triennial
period.
As
for the organisation of the General Conference, she recommended
that a survey be carried out among the Advisory Committee
members as soon as possible with a view to improving the
way the General Conference of 2004 will be organised. Some
of the members present expressed some anxiety about the
organisation of the International Committee meetings in
Korea in 2004 if contacts are not made very soon. She stated
that she would draw this to the attention of the Organising
Committee for ICOM'2004.
3. THEME OF THE INTERNATIONAL MUSEUMS DAY FOR 2003
The
members of the Advisory Committee set the theme of the International
Museums Day for 2003.
After
considerable discussion and the setting up of an ad hoc
working group, which was dissolved after having worked briefly
on the exact wording of the title, the members present agreed
on "Museums and Friends" as the theme for the year 2003.
Proposals
for the theme of the International Museums for 2004 will
be requested as soon as possible.
Virgil
Nitulescu asked whether the President of ICOM could issue
a special message on this occasion, which could be translated
and distributed to the local press. This request will be
transmitted to the President of ICOM for the themes selected
for 2002 and 2003.
4. CREATION OF WORKING GROUPS
Proposed
names for membership of the Working Groups on National Committees
and International Committees should be sent to the ICOM
Secretariat before 15 October 2001.
Yani
Herreman and Gary Edson, members of the Executive Council,
will be part of the Working Group on National Committees.
Bernice
Murphy and Martin Schärer, members of the Executive Council,
will be part of the Working Group on International Committees.
5. OTHER MATTERS
The
Chairperson invited brief reports or comments from other
members of the Advisory Committee. Lucía Astudillo (Ecuador)
informed members of the election in Barcelona of Luis Repetto
(Peru) as Chairperson of the ICOM-LAC Regional Organisation
for the period 2001-2004. Working sub-groups had been set
up and an extensive work programme adopted.
Jens
Breinegaard (Denmark) stated that members of the ICOM-Europe
Regional Organisation had studied the functioning of the
Regional Organisation. A Working Group, composed of representatives
from Romania, Greece, Denmark and Hungary, will be submitting
its conclusions on the functioning of ICOM-Europe.
Jens
Breinegaard added that although he was responsible for co-ordinating
the Working Group, he would not under any circumstance take
over the chair of the Regional Organisation.
Francisco
Xavier Yambo (ICOMAC) told members that he had recently
been elected Chairperson of ICOMAC, the Regional Organisation
for Central Africa.
Ralph
Ceplak Mencin (Slovenia) informed members of the existence
of a European sub-group, CEICOM, which will meet in Slovenia
this year to discuss museological matters and the use of
informatics in museums.
Ganga
Rautela (CECA) informed members that they should send in
a request in due form if they wish to receive the CECA publication,
as the address list has been reduced as much as possible
in order to cut down on postage costs. Ganga Rautela said
that the money for membership fees should be sent to the
Secretariat no later than 1st April 2002 to enable the institutions
that finance the Committee to send the necessary funds.
Alissandra
Cummins suggested that this specific problem should be discussed
directly with Manus Brinkman, Secretary General of ICOM.
She pointed out, however, that if a Committee does not send
its membership fees to the Secretariat in due time, it is
not up to date and cannot vote should the need arise.
The
Chairperson of the Advisory Committee invited recently elected
members of the Advisory Committee to introduce themselves.
A list of persons willing to assist these new members will
be drawn up, together with a list of new members wishing
to contact older members who could assist by replying to
their questions on ICOM, its procedures and the work of
the Organisation.
6. DATE AND PLACE OF THE 63RD SESSION OF THE ADVISORY
COMMITTEE
The
63rd Session of the Committee will be held in Paris (France)
from 3 to 5 June 2002.
Alissandra
Cummins thanked the General Secretariat, represented by
Joëlle Thibet at this session, for its work, and in particular
Manus Brinkman, Secretary General.
