recent years, UNESCO has laid especial emphasis on the
importance of cultural diversity. If the cultural diversity
of mankind is to be preserved, governments urgently
need to draft new cultural policies. To this end, the
ICOM International Committee for Documentation (CIDOC)
devoted its 2002 meeting to documentation of non-material
cultural heritage. Identification, cataloguing, and
presentation of this new type of heritage will be crucially
important elements in these new cultural policies. |
