The volume gathers the opening lectures and contributions presented during the third annual meeting of DEMHIST, held in Amsterdam in 2002, as well as the results of the workshops organised during that meeting. The theme of the conference underscored the potential of historic house museums as bearers of local and national identity and history. The meeting gave the participants the opportunity to present and discuss house museums in a broad international perspective, and to compare the situation with the Dutch one.

Ce volume réunit les discours et contributions prononcés lors de la troisième conférence annuelle du DEMHIST, organisée en 2002 à Amsterdam, ainsi que les conclusions des ateliers organisés lors de la même manifestation. La conférence mettait en valeur les demeures historiques-musées en tant que témoins de l'histoire et de l'identité locales et nationales. La réunion a permis aux participants de présenter et d'étudier les demeures-musées dans une perspective internationale d'ensemble et de comparer la situation d'autres pays avec celle des Pays-Bas.

The volume also contains contributions from joint sessions held during the conference with ICDAD (Relationships Between Authentic Interiors and Assembled Objects) and ICAMT/ICMS (Security, Old Buildings, New Buildings, and the Architects).
